Manufactured Gas Plant Services
Jump to Project
ENSR has worked hand-in-hand with utilities and other companies to address environmental issues associated with Manufactured Gas Plants (MGP) and coal tar impacted sites since the early 1980’s. From that experience we have developed a thorough understanding of the environmental issues that arise from common past practices at many old MGP and coal tar sites.
ENSR has consulted on more than 50 MGP sites in 12 states, with a long track record of Closures with No Future Action required.

MGP Site Remediation Monitoring Project
ENSR is currently conducting a fenceline air monitoring program in conjunction with the remediation of a former Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) site. Measurement parameters include particulates, total VOCs, specific VOC’s and PAHs using US EPA analytical methods TO-14 and TO-13. Speciation for the BTEX compounds is also performed using field GCs at eight monitoring stations. Continuous air quality data are transmitted to a central location via radio frequency telemetry. Continuous meteorological data are integrated into the sample program to determine upwind and downwind sample stations on a real-time basis.
ENSR’s fenceline measurement system simultaneously monitors several chemical compounds and pollutant media. The systems are transportable and can be rapidly reassigned to up to 19 locations in the remediation area. The ENSR measurement system design will greatly expedite the clean up of potentially contaminated soils in this urban setting by providing real-time information to the remediation contractor. Moreover, it will provide reduced liabilities for the property owner associated with the public’s potential exposure to airborne site contaminants.
