Water Supply Spring Source Development and Permitting

ENSR performed a water supply development project with the objective of siting, designing, and permitting of four production boreholes in a stratified-drift aquifer system that would supply spring water of sufficient quality and quantity to a newly constructed bottled water plant. This required a thorough understanding of the hydrogeology of the springs and the aquifer supplying them. The initial exploration phase involved surficial mapping, identification of natural springs, geophysical exploration, installation and testing of exploration wells, extensive water-quality sampling and analyses, and the development of a conceptual hydrogeologic model of spring occurrence. The permitting process involved the analysis of potential impacts to surface water bodies and other users of the aquifer system.

The project outcome was that ENSR optimized the siting, installation, and testing of four spring-water production boreholes with a combined capacity of 7.2 million gallons per day. The project was completed under a stringent deadline to meet the water requirements and construction deadlines of the bottling plant. ENSR administered and successfully obtained the necessary plant and water source permits for nationwide distribution.
